President William Ruto recently inaugurated the newly completed Butere Level Four Hospital in Kakamega County, marking a major milestone for local healthcare access. The Head of State hailed the project as a testament to the benefits of unity and continuity in development across regional leadership.
The 124-bed facility, initially conceived by the previous county administration, was completed and equipped through a collaborative effort. Governor Fernandes Barasa was commended by the President for prioritizing the completion of the crucial community project.
During the commissioning ceremony, President Ruto announced that the national government has already equipped the hospital with modern machinery worth a substantial KSh 150 million under the National Equipment Services Programme. He emphasized that the government is focused on ensuring that all citizens receive quality and equitable healthcare services without unnecessary financial strain.
This significant investment in the Butere hospital is expected to greatly reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for specialized medical treatment. The President stressed that the hospital belongs entirely to the people of Butere and the greater Kakamega County. Furthermore, he directed the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority to guarantee a 95 per cent drug refill rate in all public hospitals before the end of the year.
President Ruto also addressed the ongoing push for universal healthcare through the Social Health Authority, urging all residents to register. He explained that accurate registration data is essential for effective government planning to ensure proper stocking of medicine and equipment in all healthcare facilities.
The President's four-day development tour of Western Kenya aims to launch and inspect several key infrastructure projects, including roads and housing initiatives, promising substantial socio-economic transformation for the region.
