Kenya's Talanta Sports City Stadium is 66% complete and targeting full operationalization by February next year, CS Salim Mvurya confirmed. The world-class facility, designed for football and rugby, features 54 skyboxes and three training grounds.

Kenya’s ambitious sports infrastructure renewal programme continues to make significant strides, with the government confirming that the Talanta Sports City Stadium is now 66 percent complete.

This major update comes after a recent inspection tour led by Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, who expressed satisfaction with both the pace and high quality of construction work.

The CS reiterated the commitment to full operationalization of the world-class facility by February next year. The comprehensive inspection, which included high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Defence and Sports, confirmed that the critical external works and physical infrastructure components are slated for completion by the end of December.

Beyond the main structure, the expansive project incorporates essential auxiliary infrastructure designed to ensure seamless operation and connectivity.

The project incorporates the implementation of a new power substation, ongoing water system upgrades, and the securing of a vital railway link connecting the Talanta City precinct to Bomas. This integrated approach to development is a key factor in the project’s impressive execution.

Upon completion, the Talanta Sports City Stadium is set to significantly elevate Kenya’s capacity for hosting regional and international sporting events.

The facility is being purpose-built primarily for football and rugby, featuring state-of-the-art amenities including 54 executive skyboxes and, notably, three dedicated training grounds.

The project is also serving as a major employer, currently sustaining approximately 1,000 workers, 85 percent of whom are Kenyan nationals who have benefited greatly from sustained employment since the project’s inception.

The stadium’s design also includes provisions for designated spaces for shops and kiosks intended to be utilized by Kenyan small businesses.

CS Mvurya affirmed that the stadium is a legacy investment championed by President William Ruto, designed to transform sports tourism and boost Kenya's international hosting profile, with weekly site reviews ensuring adherence to safety standards and quality workmanship.
