Natural grass laying begins inside Nairobi stadium as construction transitions toward arena pitch completion.

Installation of the playing surface has commenced at the Talanta Sports City stadium in Nairobi, marking a shift toward field preparation inside the 60,000-capacity arena. Social media updates and site reports show grass turf roll-out starting across the central pitch area.

Contractors have begun laying green sod strips onto the newly leveled and prepared pitch sub-base. The process follows extensive sub-surface earthworks, including soil grading, drainage system placement, and base layer compaction across the central playing arena.

Work on the main structural components continues alongside the pitch installation. Seating framework along the lower and upper tiers appears largely formed, while elevated canopy structures and supporting steelwork remain under active installation around the stadium bowl perimeter.

The facility is being constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), with project supervision handled by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) engineering department. It forms part of Kenya’s planned infrastructure preparations ahead of co-hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Field development involves multi-layer sub-base construction to support water drainage, soil aeration, and long-term turf stabilization. Once the full grass layer is placed, specialized turf maintenance and surface integration processes will follow to establish a level pitch compliant with international football standards.

The stadium design focuses exclusively on pitch sports, omitting a traditional athletics running track to bring spectator stands closer to the field. Finishing works across internal corridors, VIP sections, and technical service zones will continue as the turf installation progresses.
