Infrastructure development in Nyandarua County remains a focal point for the national government as high-ranking officials conducted a field assessment of ongoing power distribution works. Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, joined his counterpart for Energy, Alex Wachira, to inspect the implementation of the Last Mile Connectivity Project in Ndeiya Village, situated within Kipipiri Constituency.
The visit served as a technical oversight mission to evaluate the deployment of electrical infrastructure in rural settlements. During the inspection, officials observed the installation of distribution equipment and the expansion of low-voltage lines intended to link households to the national grid. The presence of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) underscores the inter-agency coordination required to execute these utility extensions alongside existing road networks.
Eng. Joseph Mbugua noted the importance of integrated infrastructure, where road accessibility and energy distribution work in tandem to support local industry. The inspection in Ndeiya Village is part of a broader mandate to ensure that primary infrastructure reaches the household level. This specific project in Kipipiri involves the installation of transformers and the stringing of service cables to homes that previously sat outside the reach of the existing medium voltage network.
Alex Wachira emphasized the technical requirements for completing the connection phase, noting that the project aims to utilize existing transformers to their maximum capacity. By extending the low-voltage network within a 600-meter radius of these transformers, the government intends to reduce the technical and financial barriers that have historically prevented rural residents from accessing stable power.
The Last Mile Connectivity Project is a capital-intensive undertaking involving multiple stakeholders. In Nyandarua, the initiative has seen significant investment directed toward upgrading the grid and ensuring that public facilities, including schools and health centers, are prioritized for connection. The ongoing works in Kipipiri are part of a larger regional rollout that has already seen over Sh1.26 billion allocated for electrification across Nyandarua County in recent years.
Construction teams on the ground in Ndeiya are currently engaged in pole planting and the mounting of distribution hardware. These technical activities are monitored closely to ensure adherence to safety standards and project timelines. The collaboration between the State Department for Roads and the Ministry of Energy reflects an all-of-government approach to infrastructure, recognizing that transport and energy are the twin pillars of rural economic activity.
As the implementation continues, the focus remains on the completion of the physical network and the subsequent installation of meters for new consumers. The oversight by the two Principal Secretaries signals a commitment to resolving any logistical bottlenecks that may arise during the final stages of the Ndeiya Village rollout.
