President William Ruto has issued a definitive completion deadline of April 2026 for the massive Sh35 billion Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC), setting the stage for Kenya to host the high-profile Africa-France Summit just one month later.
The directive underscores a government push to fast-track flagship infrastructure projects, ensuring timely delivery for its planned inaugural international engagement in May.
This ambitious undertaking, launched in March 2025, is strategically positioned to redefine Kenya’s standing as a premier global conferencing and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination, a sector where the nation has historically lagged behind regional peers.
The BICC is designed to be the largest convention facility in East and Central Africa, boasting an impressive 11,000-seat, four-storey convention centre. Its design incorporates elements that complement nearby developments like the Talanta Stadium, creating a dual hub for both regional and global events.
Beyond the main auditorium, the ultra-modern complex will feature essential components aimed at enhancing delegate experience and local integration, including an animal orphanage, modern exhibition halls, sports amenities, and expansive parking facilities.
To meet the exacting timelines, the administration has placed the construction under the strict supervision of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), adopting a continuous, 24-hour construction schedule. This model, which leverages military discipline for project execution, is consistent with other fast-tracked government infrastructure works.
The project's scope also extends beyond the main structure, incorporating critical supporting infrastructure like light rail connectivity, major road upgrades, enhanced water circulation systems, and advanced Information and Communications Technology (ICT) networks, all necessary to support high-capacity international conferencing.
Once operational, the BICC is projected to generate thousands of jobs, catalyse new investments across the Nairobi ecosystem, and firmly cement the city’s reputation as a key continental business and diplomatic hub, symbolising the government’s commitment to ambitious, world-class infrastructure.
