KPA opens 194 internship slots for technical and administrative roles

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), has issued a call for applications to fill 194 internship positions, signaling a strategic effort to integrate fresh talent into the country's maritime and logistics infrastructure. The recruitment drive is spread across dozens of specialized departments, ranging from engineering and port operations to legal and administrative services.

Successful candidates will be engaged for a non-renewable period of 12 months. This program is designed to provide practical industry experience to unemployed Kenyan graduates who have completed their degree or diploma programs within the last three years. The authority, which manages the Port of Mombasa and other key maritime facilities, has emphasized that this intake is part of its corporate social responsibility and capacity-building mandate.

According to the official announcement, the opportunities are highly diversified. The technical wing is seeking interns in electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and marine engineering. These roles are critical for the maintenance and expansion of port infrastructure, which remains a cornerstone of the regional economy.

In the administrative and support sectors, the KPA has opened slots for graduates in human resources, procurement and supply chain management, finance, accounting, and information technology. There are also specialized openings for those with backgrounds in law, corporate communications, and environmental science, reflecting the complex regulatory and operational environment of modern port management.

To be eligible, applicants must be Kenyan citizens of not more than 35 years of age. They are required to have a Bachelor’s degree or a Diploma from a recognized institution. Additionally, candidates must possess a valid personal accident insurance cover and a certificate of good conduct. The authority has also specified that applicants should not have benefited from a similar program at the KPA or any other state corporation previously.

The application process is strictly digital, hosted on the KPA careers portal. Potential interns are required to create a profile and upload necessary documents, including academic certificates, national identity cards, and professional resumes. The deadline for submission has been set for the end of the current recruitment cycle, with the authority warning that incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
