Abel Yakubu, a Nigerian cloud engineer based in Germany, has secured a Guinness World Record for the longest computer programming lesson following a marathon session in Abuja. The 60-hour event surpassed the previous global record of 48 hours and 15 minutes. Yakubu, who serves as a senior engineer at NexEdge Technologies, led the instruction from Friday, November 21, through Sunday, November 23, 2025.
The technical session took place at the Minds and Emotions Centre in Wuse 2, where Yakubu provided continuous instruction on major cloud computing platforms. The curriculum focused on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure. Approximately 60 students participated in the lesson, while 20 independent witnesses monitored the proceedings to ensure compliance with official record-keeping standards.
Preparation for the marathon spanned two months and involved physical and mental conditioning. Yakubu noted that the overnight portions of the schedule presented the most significant difficulty during the attempt. The primary objective of the record attempt was to encourage young Nigerians to pursue advanced digital skills as the global demand for cloud architecture and artificial intelligence integration grows.
Guinness World Records has formally validated the feat, noting the final time as exactly 60 hours. Throughout the period, the session was broadcast live on digital platforms to maintain transparency. Yakubu, who has over a decade of experience in the sector, has contributed to training over 200 individuals in technical fields over the past year.
