PHOTOS: Nyeri Housing and Infrastructure Projects Receive Ksh21 Billion Boost

The national government has directed KSh21 billion toward a series of infrastructure developments in Nyeri County, focusing on residential, commercial, and educational facilities. The investment covers the construction of 8,000 affordable housing units intended to expand access to low-cost shelter for residents. These housing projects are distributed across several sites, including developments at Ruring'u and Blue Valley, which provide a mix of social and market-rate units.

A significant portion of the funding is allocated to the student accommodation sector, with hostels designed to house 7,200 students currently under development. This move addresses the housing deficit in the county's higher education institutions. Alongside these residential projects, the state is building 20 modern markets to support local entrepreneurs and small-scale traders by providing organized spaces for commerce.

The Karatina Marigiti Modern Market has been commissioned as part of this broader infrastructure drive. The facility incorporates several non-traditional amenities for a public market, including a daycare centre for the children of traders, an ICT hub, and a restaurant. These additions are designed to support the daily needs of vendors while integrating technology into the local trading environment.

Officials indicate that the multi-billion shilling projects are expected to generate immediate employment opportunities for youth during the construction phase. The long-term objective of the programme is to stimulate the local economy by improving business conditions for small-scale entrepreneurs and ensuring more residents have access to decent housing.
