The Affordable Housing Board (AHB) has issued a response to applicants who registered and deposited funds for units under the government housing project in Mukuru, Nairobi.
Concerns mounted after several individuals who paid mandatory deposits through the digital allocation platform were notified that their preferred housing units were no longer available.
Protests took place in Mukuru, where affected residents raised questions regarding the status of their financial contributions and the general transparency of the allocation process.
Some applicants reported paying up to five per cent of the total unit price, amounting to tens of thousands of shillings, before receiving electronic system notifications indicating that the homes were sold out.
The administration under President William Ruto had previously handed over completed units in Mukuru as part of a larger plan to deliver 13,248 housing units in the area.
The site was cleared following earlier evictions designed to make way for modern structures, and displaced households were expected to receive priority during the allocation phase.
The board clarified that 15,142 applicants are yet to secure alternative units within the ongoing housing program.
Officials maintained that unit distributions undergo verification, enumeration, and final matching through the official Boma Yangu system, although displaced families continue to demand direct clarity on when their money will result in secured homes.
