President Ruto visits Kitutu Chache South to review the construction of a new multi-user facility designed to host hundreds of local traders in Kisii County.

President William Ruto conducted a site inspection of the Nyakoe Modern Market in Kitutu Chache South, Kisii County, on Monday. The visit was part of a broader tour to monitor progress on essential infrastructure projects across the region.

The President was accompanied by local leaders and technical teams as he walked through the active construction site. During the walkthrough, he examined the structural framework and the foundation work currently underway at the facility.

Upon its scheduled completion, the market will provide designated spaces for more than 300 traders. This capacity aims to centralize local commerce and move vendors from informal roadside settings into a more structured environment.

The Nyakoe Modern Market is part of a national government initiative to modernize trading hubs in every constituency. These facilities are designed to include modern amenities, such as proper drainage, electricity, and water supply, which are often lacking in traditional open-air markets.

During the visit, President Ruto emphasized the need for timely delivery of the project. He noted that the facility is intended to improve the working conditions for small-scale entrepreneurs, who form the backbone of the local economy.

Engineers on-site briefed the President on the technical aspects of the build, including the material specifications and the projected timeline for the next phases. The construction currently employs dozens of local workers, providing immediate manual labor opportunities for residents in the area.

Kisii County has seen an increase in government-funded market projects over the last two years. The Nyakoe facility is expected to serve as a major hub for agricultural produce, given the high productivity of the surrounding Kitutu Chache South region.

Security and hygiene were highlighted as key components of the new design. The market will feature lockable stalls and secure storage areas, which will help reduce post-harvest losses for vendors selling perishable goods.

Residents gathered at the site to witness the inspection, reflecting the high interest in the completion of the project. The President addressed the crowd briefly, reiterating that the government remains committed to finishing all ongoing infrastructure works before starting new ones.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is overseeing the project to ensure it meets the required safety and quality standards. This oversight includes regular audits of the man-hours logged and the quality of the concrete and steel used in the primary structures.

As the inspection concluded, the President moved to other parts of Kisii County for similar project reviews. The Nyakoe Modern Market remains one of the flagship urban renewal efforts within the Kitutu Chache South constituency.
