The National Transport and Safety Authority has directed Kenyan vehicle owners to update their digital profiles, ahead of a mandatory rollout of automated notifications for minor traffic fines.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a directive to all motorists across the country to update their contact details on their transport information portals.

The immediate updates are required to facilitate the implementation of instant notifications for minor traffic offenses.

According to transport officials, the system will rely heavily on accurate digital details to send automated fine alerts directly to vehicle owners, who must ensure their telephone numbers and email addresses match current records.

The upgrade forms part of a wider state digitisation strategy overseen by President Ruto, which targets efficiency in public sector administration and road safety management.

Industry analysts note that automated enforcement reduces physical interactions between motorists and traffic law enforcement officers, although previous attempts to introduce instant fines faced legal delays.

The system will automatically log minor infractions, such as minor speeding or lanes violations, and forward the penalty notices directly to the offender.

Failure to update portal profiles within the specified timeline could lead to missed compliance windows, which often results in accrued penalties or challenges during annual motor vehicle inspection processes.

NTSA enforcement officers continue to conduct field operations to assist drivers with system compliance while checking roadworthiness.
